weirdness when the template name is the same as the file

hi; I have my notes in a directory structure which the following note representing the 5th of May, 2024 will illustrate:

/notes/2024/05/05.adoc

I’d expect that in my _site I’ll have:

/_site/notes/2024/05/05/index.html

but instead, I get:

/_site/notes/2024/05/index.html

I bet it has to do with the name of my template being the same as the name of the directory (if you remove the .adoc extension)

anybody know a workaround?

here is some more on this:

the docs (‘Working with Templates’ -> ‘Permalinks’) say the following (I’ve paraphrased it):

that

subdir/template.njk

and

subdir/template/template.njk

result in the exact same output:

_site/subdir/template/index.html

never mind that this is strange to me . but how do I disable that? . how can I have

subdir/template/template.njk

produce

_site/subdir/template/template/index.html

?
