Hello,
since you say "The extension is not ready for release at this time"
can you please provide some overview in README file stating what works and what does not?
Windows, X11, Wayland, OSX?

Also what are the plans for future? Geting merged upstream into Tk perhaps?
What about Python Tkinter? Is there chance of geting this work with Tkinter and PyOpenGL?
(eg. calling TkGL by calling tcl commands from python via tk.eval())

@culler will have to comment to be definitive about the current status, but we are already using TkGL as part of tkinter_gl which provides support for Python's tkinter. In turn, we use tkinter-gl in SnapPy in our released apps which work on Windows, Linux (X11 or Wayland), and macOS.

If you're interested in using this in Python, tkinter-gl is already on PyPi and there are some test scripts in the GitHub repo that use PyOpenGL.

Yes, TkGL is very minimal and was meant mainly to be used by tkinter-gl. That said, it should also work in Tcl in conjunction with a Tcl extension which provides a wrapping of the opengl library.

Incidentally, there are github workflows to build TkGL on many platforms. To build the tkinter-gl pypi package I just used the Tk extension packages from the Actions runs. It should be simple to add an arm64 workflow. I will try that.
