assign signature to identity

as far as i understand the tab "identities" in settings, i should be able to assign one specific signature to one of my identities, that changes the signature, if i change the identity. i added (in my case three) signatures (plain text) on the signatures tab (one of them is default), switching to the identities tab, there are all my defined identities, but i cannot open the selection field on the right side to assign a signature.

i also tried to completely remove and re-install the extension, with no success...

do i miss anything in configuration or did i misunderstand the feature?
