Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and maintainers pledge to make participation in the ZIBO Keyboard Input Plugin project and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

  • Being respectful and inclusive: Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Being collaborative: Offering constructive feedback and accepting criticism gracefully
  • Focusing on what is best for the community: Prioritizing the project's goals and user experience
  • Showing empathy: Being understanding toward other community members and their perspectives
  • Being patient: Helping newcomers learn and grow in the X-Plane development community
  • Giving credit: Acknowledging contributions and giving appropriate attribution
  • Being professional: Maintaining professionalism in all project communications

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • Harassment: The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
  • Trolling: Insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
  • Discrimination: Public or private harassment based on identity or personal characteristics
  • Privacy violations: Publishing others' private information without explicit permission
  • Spam: Posting irrelevant content, excessive self-promotion, or off-topic discussions
  • Disruption: Deliberately disrupting discussions, pull requests, or community spaces
  • Other conduct: Any other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Project-Specific Guidelines

As a flight simulation community project, we also expect:

Technical Discussions

  • Stay on topic: Keep discussions focused on the ZIBO Keyboard Input Plugin and related X-Plane development
  • Be constructive: When reporting bugs or requesting features, provide clear, actionable information
  • Share knowledge: Help others learn X-Plane plugin development and ZIBO 737 systems
  • Respect expertise: Acknowledge that contributors have varying levels of experience with X-Plane, C++, and aviation

Code Contributions

  • Follow guidelines: Adhere to the coding standards outlined in CONTRIBUTING.md
  • Test thoroughly: Ensure your contributions work across supported platforms and X-Plane versions
  • Document changes: Provide clear explanations of what your code does and why
  • Be responsive: Address feedback and questions about your contributions promptly

Community Interaction

  • Welcome newcomers: Help new contributors get started with the project
  • Share resources: Point others to helpful X-Plane development resources and documentation
  • Celebrate achievements: Acknowledge good contributions and milestone achievements
  • Support learning: Be patient with those learning X-Plane plugin development

Enforcement Responsibilities

Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all project spaces, including:

  • GitHub repository: Issues, pull requests, discussions, and code comments
  • Documentation: README files, wiki pages, and other project documentation
  • Communication channels: Any official project communication platforms
  • Community events: Any project-related meetups, conferences, or online events
  • Social media: When representing the project on social media platforms

This Code of Conduct also applies when an individual is officially representing the project in public spaces. Examples of representing our project include using an official project e-mail address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.

Reporting Guidelines

How to Report

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please report it by:

  1. GitHub Issues: For public concerns that don't involve sensitive information
  2. Direct Contact: For sensitive matters, contact the project maintainers directly
  3. Email: Send details to the project maintainer (contact information in repository)

What to Include

When reporting, please include:

  • Your contact information (so we can follow up if needed)
  • Names of any individuals involved (including witnesses)
  • Description of the incident (what happened, when, where)
  • Any additional context that might be helpful
  • Whether you've reported this elsewhere

Confidentiality

All reports will be handled with discretion. We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse. We may take public action if we believe it's necessary to protect others from harm.

Enforcement Process

Project maintainers will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:

1. Correction

Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.

Consequence: A private, written warning from project maintainers, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Warning

Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.

Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.

3. Temporary Ban

Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior.

Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.

4. Permanent Ban

Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.

Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the project community.

Appeals Process

If you believe you have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, you should notify the project maintainers with a concise description of your grievance. Appeals will be handled in accordance with the same review process as initial reports.
