Does amrex_armcore_init replace amrex_boxarray_build (and its friends)?

The docs mention the fortran functions amrex_geometry_build, and amrex_boxarray_build but those functions are not used in the example-codes that call amrex_amrcore_init. If I'm leveraging the AMR capabilities of AMReX, should I avoid amrex_geometry_build and amrex_boxarray_build?

That's correct. amrex_amrcore_init will build them and usually you don't need to build them yourself.
