Software as a library: Separate renderer from everything else

As discussed during the meeting, one idea would be to implement the software as a library where the renderer could be excluded from the software. This issue is created to get some feedback on that aspect.

We will use labeling for the first version. In a future version we can consider refactoring it as a library to make it easier to use for consumers.
