[FEATURE] allow buildTemplate to generate invalid json and buildDefinition to use the same

sometimes, templating requires getting creative. if you want to template the default email field in an eventDefinition, things become extremely tricky very quickly because that field will be listed in other places as well with the same formatting. if we could replace the entire json line instead, that break the json format but solve the templating issue
