Why does launching aider display 'Repo-map: using 4096 tokens, auto refresh', but the actual repo map is more than double that size?

Git repo: .git with 687 files
Repo-map: using 4096 tokens, auto refresh

If chat files are not set, the system will set a larger map-tokens to better understand the entire repository
