David E. Bernal Neira

I am an incoming Professor in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University. I specialize in the application of mathematical and computer science tools to address problems relevant to science and engineering, for example physics and chemical, process, and energy systems engineering. In particular, I work in the fields of nonlinear discrete optimization, where besides applications I have been working in theory, algorithms, and software. I have been involved in research and teaching related to this topics for over a decade, with a recent incursion in the field of Quantum Computing. I'm currently a research scientist at the NASA Quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the Research Institute of Advanced Computer Science from the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). By today, I've co-authored more than 20 papers in indexed journals, several software packages for optimization and quantum computing, more than 50 presentations and seminars in the U.S. and internationally, co-teaching more than 5 different classes included one designed by myself (on the intersection of optimization and quantum computing), and have had the pleasure of collaborating with over 100 different researchers in academia, national laboratories, government agencies, and industry.
