Tracker Unknown

Hello there,

Ever since I changed mobile device recently, I have not been able to get this integration to work because no matter how many times I go through the config flow, all I can see is "Tracker Unknown"

This seems to be the same issue as #91, but for me it won't go away.

Dawarich version: 1.9.1
Integration Version: Tried both 0.8.6 and 1.0.0-beta5

While testing the 1.0 beta release I also get the warning that the device tracker is unavailable, but if I use the string that's shown there and look for it under Entities, the entity shows up just fine.
I have also tried both with a device tracker and a person, neither seems to work for me.

@SpyrosRoum mine seems to stay unknown, but if I open the companion app on my phone and go to Settings -> Location, then press Update Location, the information is forwarded and also logged if you enable debug mode first :)

Hey @bachjessen, are you talking about the home assistant companion app?
I don't see any "Location" setting under settings or under Settings -> Companion App.

Maybe because I haven't enabled debug mode, but after a brief googling about how to do, I don't see any references to it anywhere 🤔

yeah if i go settings -> companion app -> location -> under location history i see update location :)

i'm on ios, maybe they differ?

@SpyrosRoum Please verify if the suggested debug step works. If it does, then this is not an error with this component.

I'm getting this same issue, but I'm using the device tracker locations provided by iCloud3 - https://github.com/gcobb321/icloud3. They configure fine, but I get the "tracker unknown".

Seem to get unknown tracker on all the various Home Assistant trackers entities.

Please make sure that there actually is a state in home assistant. If the device tracker does not have a state yet it will show this in the log:

In case there is data from your device, then please post the state (redact private information) of the device tracker, as found when calling <instance of HomeAssistant>.states.get(<name here>). You may do this by changing to 1.0.0-beta6-debug pre-release as well as turning on debug logging. Please note that your location will be in the logs.

I can get things to work if I use the native Home Assistant iOS app and manual trigger location. I get a tracker success. But if using the iCloud3 tracker, it's always unknown. Maybe it's just a limitation with the way iCloud3 does this. Too bad if so, as it would be a great way to do tracking.

It seems like the iCloud3 sends a unix timestamp instead of an ISO string, which the native HA app is using.

I simply solved the problem using a device_tracker that effectively mirrors my iCloud tracker. To do this, I just added the following to configuration.yaml:

iCloud3 outputs internal tracking and zone timestamps as numeric Unix epoch values (seconds since 1970) for efficient time math, rather than human-readable ISO 8601 strings. Converting in Home Assistant If you need an ISO string for automations or templates, you can convert the Unix timestamp directly using Home Assistant's built-in Jinja2 functions:

To standard ISO format:{{ as_datetime(state_attr('device_tracker.icloud3_tracker', 'last_update')) | string }}
To strict .isoformat():{{ as_datetime(states('sensor.icloud3_timestamp')).isoformat() }}
