What do you think about this "stretch" end result?

I have TERRIBLE light pollution in my night sky, as you can see from the really bright image. With an autostretch setting of 15 and 35% it honestly looks like it cleared a lot of that pollution up and didn't tremendously impact visibility of milky way.

Do you think the lost image detail from the darker post-processed capture is too much?

I double stretched it just for kicks. Honestly I feel like this looks great for bortle 5 skies right next to a big town.

Only you can answer that.

Personally, your "double stretched" image is my favorite. I think being able to see the milky way with your light pollution is pretty darn good.

I'm primarily interested in capturing meteors; I wonder if this setup will filter many out?

Only time will tell, but I suspect it will help to see meteors.
Do you have any pre-stretch images that have meteors in them? If si, try stretching them to see it it helps or hurts.
