Backup: got a few error messages

Hello

I run the Allsky on PI 4. It's running fine

I wanted to create a backup by copying the Allsky folder to a USB connected to the PI. I used the file manager.

While copying I got these messages:

  llsky-config: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  functions.php: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  lib64: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  python3: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  python: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  python3.11: Filesystem does not support symbolic links
  .lgd-nfy0: Cannot copy file '(null)': not supported

Should I be concerned about the messages?

For info: the files on the USB look ok: see screenshot

I suspect the usb drive is formatted as FAT or exFAT which don't support symbolic links

There are some odd files in that list which should not be symbolic links in the first place for example functions.php

What version of Allsky are you running?

There should be an option in the File manager to format the drive, you will lose everything on the drive when formatting.

I'm a bit confused. Not sure what to do. Should I reformat (but I don't see format option in the file manager). Or do what Eric said (but I don't understand it) ...

I agree with @Alex-developer that you need to copy the files to a Linux filesystem.

You can ignore this message:

.lgd-nfy0: Cannot copy file '(null)': not supported

Or, better yet, if you have a script that does the copying, add this to the top:

rm -f ~/allsky/.lgd-*

The ".lgd" files aren't needed.

@ova103, please run lsblk -f.
It will list the filesystems. Look for the part entry for the one you created. To overwrite it with an ext4 (Linux) filesystem:

sudo mkfs -t ext4 /dev/PART_NAME          # where PART_NAME is the name from above

I did what was in the link but got some messages:

so in mean time it's formatted ext4 but got a hint message with the mounting .

I tried to copy anyway the allsky folder but got this message ...

For the permission problem:

sudo chown USER /media/Oliver
chgrp USER /media/Oliver
chmod 755 /media/Oliver

Where USER is your username.

No I did not do it. Should I still do it?

In the mean time I copied the allsky folder to the USB. It worked. I did not receive the previous messages.
But I received these messages. Is this a concern (remember I'm doing this as a backup of the settings, I don't really care if I loose the images as I keep them only 3 days - but I care about the settings of the allsky, I don't want to redo all these settings in case my sd card crashes. So the purpose of the usb is just to copy this back on a new SD card in case it would be defect.

You don't have enough space on the USB device.

If you just want to keep a copy of the settings then backup

~/allsky/config <-- and all of its subdirectories and files
~/allsky/env.json <-- This contains private information such as passwords

@ova103, keep in mind that Windows won't be able to read the ext4 disk unless you search for, and install software that allows it to. And then it Windows will only be able to read the disk, not write to it.
