Remote Website lastimage.jpg / lastkeogram.jpg

Hi,
I use a remote website, all good. Additionally to the files in the keogram-folder to archive (with date-stamp) I want a lastkeogram.jpg to pick and show in my observatory homepage. I set the filenames in remote website configuration under "Remote Keogram File Name" to "lastkeogram.jpg", but then the date-stamp-file will not be generated.
Or do I have to setup therefore additionally a remote webserver to do so?

I assume you are running the latest version of Allsky? If so, the "Remote Server" was created exactly for this. I use it to upload the latest image, keogram, startrails, and timelapse to my observatory page. I also have a "Remote Allsky Website" that gets the timestamp version of the files.

It sounds like you want both sets of files to go to the same server? Just set the fields in the "Remote Server" section of the WebUI, and give the files a name.

FYI, the "Remote Keogram/Startrails/Timelapse File Name" settings for remote Websites were removed in v2024.12.06_01, but those fields for Remote Servers are still there.

Hi Eric, yes I use v2024-12-06. Thanks for explanation. Now I understand what I did. It was not clear for me, what these fields do... seems nothing...
By the way: I switched my remote website to a hosting provider. No access to the RasPi, no need for IPv6...

Ahhh, the help files are updated, veery nice! They are quite new, aren't they? Worth the update vom 2024-12-06 to 2024-12-06_1. You know: never change a running system.

Oh, in the folder for remote server, only the testfile and the (last)image.jpg is uploaded, no trails, timelaps, keogram. I have set the opional filenames to lastkeogram.jpg etc... Wrong? I deleted them now, lets see...
I still don't understand all the features and what every setting does. Keograms are very high in pixels, is this due to the -x command?

Please attach /var/log/allsky.log and I will look to see if I can determine why the timelapse, keogram, and startrails didn't upload to your remote server. Are they uploading to your remote Website?

Several of the remote Website and remote server settings only apply to specific Protocols, like the "S3" and "GSH" settings. In a future release of Allsky we want to hide the fields that don't apply to the specified Protocol.
The Settings -> Allsky documentation page describes what all the fields are for.

What do you mean by this:

Keograms are very high in pixels

The -x option tells the keogram program to make the keogram image as wide as image.jpg. There are times when the keogram might be very skinny.
I don't think a keogram would be parger than a typical image.

I looked at the log file and found the error: the upload script expects the subfolders /keograms, /startrails, /videos. I hadn't created them. I think it should work tomorrow.

QUESTION: the current image.jpg is uploaded to the remote website (necessary) AND to the remote server. Is there no configuration on the remote server to ONLY upload keogram, startrails and timelapse? I can take the last image from remote website files to put into my website.

It sounds like you did not run remoteWebsiteInstall.sh to install the remote Website? It creates the directories and uploads everything. If you haven't run it, I suggest doing so.

There is no way to specify what machines get the current image, startrails, keogram, or timelapse. In all cases, if you enable uploads, it implies the file will be upload to any place that is enabled in the WebUI: a local Website, a remote Website, and a remote Server.

Giving users the ability to specify which machine(s) get each file would require changing the simple "upload" settings into more complex lists of places to upload to. That would almost certainly result in people submitting bug reports like "my timelapse isn't uploaded". And with the current WebUI, the settings would show all 3 locations even though only 1 may be enabled, which would likely result in even more problems.

Are you wanting to CROP the image, or just resize it?
There's currently no automated way to do this, but you could probably write a script that ran at the end of the night to create the keogram, resize it, then upload it. You would need to disable generation of the keogram in the WebUI.
