Any way to Port Allsky to Android?

Just an idea. Know you guys are busy and the utility is awesome already.

Everyone has an old phone kicking about in a drawer. Smart phones already cameras are great for low light astrophotography. Small, on board storage and WiFi. Single USB cable to power.

Would be great if it was possible to repurpose as make shift all sky cameras.

Is there any reason this would be a bad idea?

We are very unlikely to. The demand isn't high enough and the anticipated effort is high.

Some drawbacks I see with using a phone's camera:

• Not wide angle. "allsky" cameras can see "all the sky" (more or less).
• Would need a potentially custom piece of software on the Pi to remotely control the phone.
• Would most likely need custom software on the phone to store the picture someplace the Pi can get to.
• Risk of it overheating in the summer sun.
• It would be a "one off" so you wouldn't be able to ask other people for support or questions.
• You can get an RPi HQ camera or similar camera for a relatively low price. It works well and has existing software.
• Other than being free, I don't see any advantages of using a phone's camera.

If still interested, check out indi-allsky. It supports a lot more cameras than Allsky.
