Hello,,
do you know what might be causing the issue with image display? It started yesterday. The files are in the folder allsky/images/20250415/thumbnails/image-20250415233950.jpg, and when I click on them, the image shows up. It just seems like it’s not displaying properly in the gallery.

Are there any errors in /var/log/lighttpd/error.log?
That's the web server's log file.

Do you see more thumbnails if you refresh the browser while on the page?

You can also press F12 when on the page and go to the "Network" tab, then refresh the page and look for any Network entries in red.

Please look in /var/log/lighttpd/error.log.1
Once a week all log files are renamed with ".1" at the end, and a new log file created. The file you attached was the new log file.

192.168.. IP addresses are only accessible via your local network, so they are not private and no one can ever access your computers using those addresses. There's no need to cross them out. Every home network has the same IP addresses.

I'm curious what the lighttpd log file has for all those "403 forbidden" images.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I also looked using F12 and it seems there might be some noise. Because for http://192.168.20.98/images/20250415/thumbnails/image-20250415223751.jpg the TYPE is text/html, but maybe I'm wrong. However, when I moved the thumbnails folder to the PC desktop and deleted the thumbnails folder from the 20250415 directory, all the photos then appeared for me. After that, I re-uploaded the thumbnails folder to the 20250415 directory and again not all the images were displayed. Maybe it's some kind of noise. Since then, it has only happened to me in those two folders (20250415 and 20250416) where there are a lot of photos. In other folders, there are only a few photos. Yesterday there were only around 450 photos there.

That means all the images in ~/allsky/images/20250419 have the correct permissions.

Try temporarily renaming the ~/allsky/images/20250419 folder to ~/allsky/images/20250430, then look in the "Images" page and see if you see all the thumbnails in 20250430. Also, can you see all the thumbnails if you use a different browser or a different computer? Possibly from your phone?

Do i need to do something for you?

Made a new dir called 20250530 and moved all 13 may to this dir.

In new dir more thumbs missing than 13may, and different files. Weirdddddddd..

But i have to say, since 13 may after that i dont have missing thumbs (YET). Maybe because days get shorter? Less thumbs. Other problems, i dunno. How do you debugg something like that.

It's hard to debug a problem that is inconsistent and only seen by a small number of users.
I plan to copy the images @Michal198569 has on his Google drive to my Pi 4 and Pi 5 and hope I see the problem using several different browsers. I'll then use F12 mode to try and determine if it's a browser problem or a Pi problem.

I suspect text/html is what's displayed when the browser can't download a file.

When an image doesn't have an associated thumbnail, the image itself is used as the thumbnail, which means the browser reads the whole image. If you have 1153 images and each one is 2 MB, you are downloading 2 GB. You may have noticed the page took a while to load?

To make sure I understand, you:

1. Copied the images/20250415/thumbnails folder to your PC.
2. Deleted the images/20250415/thumbnails directory from the Pi.
3. Looked at 20250415 on the WebUI's "Images" page and saw all the images, for the reason I mentioned above.
4. Moved (or copied) the 20250415/thumbnails directory from your PC back to the Pi.
5. Looked at 20250415 on the WebUI's "Images" page and some of the thumbnails were missing.

Is that correct?

Can you attach a zip file of the images/20250415/thumbnails directory?
If the zip file is too large for GitHub, do you have a Google drive or something similar you can use?

If I can reproduce the problem, it will make things easier.

I copied Michal's files to my Pi and got the same errors using the Edge browser and Chrome, but it worked with Firefox and the browser on the Pi.

What browser are you using?

When it failed, I found that if there are up to 990 images it's fine. Once there are 991 some images start failing.

I used the attached file for testing. Can you try it? Put the file in ~/allsky/html and rename to x.html, then enter http://allsky/x.html, replacing allsky with the name of your Pi.

I checked 13 may. i saw 4 or 5 broken thumbnails. Went back to date list. And ticked 13 may again, then i saw all thumbnails.

At 11 may missing like 10thumbs. The same thing. Went back to date list, and ticked it again and all thumbs were there after.

Atleast firefox is generating them after 2nd time.

But like i said, i dont have any missing thubs anymore since 13may. Still checking every day if some are missing, but so far it going okay now. Dunno why it sudden works since 13 may.

I don't know what to do next. It really looks like a browser issue since it works fine with Firefox and the browser on the Pi, but not with Chrome or Edge.
It's also possible it's an interaction between the Pi's web server and the non-working browsers.

FYI, I'm also having this issue with thumbnails on Safari, Edge and the DuckDuckGo browser. On Safari it stops after about 1010 thumbnails. On Edge it's all broken up.

Thats giving the number of files that Linux can have open (1024) and the number of images in a directory.

One possibility with this is that there are so many images is exceeding that limit. We will need to test this a little further

Try the following:

• Use sudo and your favorite text editor to edit /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf, for example sudo nano /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
• At the top of the file, as these lines:

server.max-keep-alive-requests = 2000
server.max-keep-alive-idle = 3

save the file then run sudo systemctl restart lighttpd.

We're pretty sure this is not an Allsky problem but is something with the web server (lighttpd) on the Pi.
The lines above tell the web server to allow 2000 requests to be open at once (the default is 1000), and to close requests after 3 seconds (default is 5).

Let us know how it goes, and if it fixes the problem but causes problem with other pages.

I figured it out. Had to add forceuid and forcegid to the mount.cifs command.
My next question is, does this mount come back after a re-boot or do I need to add this to the fstab file?

If you are asking about the fstab file, you are more experienced than 99% of the people!

Yes, you need to add an entry there. My notes from when I did this 3 or 4 years ago don't say exactly what I did, but this is my entry:

//192.168.0.250/nas /home/pi/camera_pictures cifs vers=3.0,uid=pi,gid=pi,rw,username=Pi,password=MY_PASSWORD 0 0

192.168.0.250 is the IP of my NAS, and the share on it is called "nas".
I have some security cameras and they save their images to the NAS, then I have a service on the Pi that makes timelapse from them, and that services needs access to the NAS. It gets mounted on /home/pi/camera_pictures.

The change you made to those settings only deals with how your browser interacts with the web server on the Pi. It's not related to image capture, so you can test it any time.

We believe the problem is related to how different browsers request a thousand plus images, how long it takes them to make the request, how fast your network is, how busy the Pi is, etc. Every time you visit the page or do a Control-F5, all those variables are slightly different, so you get slightly different results.

Ye, the new one from last night is not right either. The thumbs are there. 1212 and 1212, but somehow chrome, FF doesnt want to show it (random).

I dunno what to do now. We tried so much.

PI is several meter from my Accesspoint, so it has a good connection.

Why would you lose all pictures?
In v2025.xx.xx you can create a backup (via the WebUI's "System -> Backups" page) that includes the images, then copy that backup to a USB thumb drive. Then restore it.

On my Bullseye I had the same issue with lighttpd not working which I have fixed.

I have NOT had the venv issue so just want to check what it actually did

@Oxize I have made some changes and managed to upgrade on Bullseys ok. I did not get the issue with the venv failing to create so will investigate why that could have happened.

I have

1. Done a clean install of Bullseys
2. Installed the current release

The 43.2 degree "Sample" is just a number we put into that field to show users what the results will look like. It has nothing to do with your actual CPUTEMP.
The "Display Sample Data" icon (box with checkmark in it) will replace the variables with their values in the Overlay Editor.

Try forcing a browser refresh to clear the cache.
In the browser window, press F12, then on the right go to the "Network" tab and click on "Disable cache", then press SHIFT-F5. Let me know if the buttons start working.

I think there are a few things going on here

1. Some of the module code is broken on Bullseye - I have pushed some change to sort the pi status module not working, This will require a re clone and run the installer again.
2. The weather module issue is down to the upgrade missing it the very first time you ran it, on subsequent upgrades it will not be installed. - I will look at that next but in the mean time assuming you get the site working after point 3 below see the notes below on installing the open weather module
3. The buttons not working, missing icons are I suspect cache related. Try running the site in a private browsing session and see if that help.

Doesnt load all fonts now which i have.

Need supercorn. Neither can remove it. Incognito window doesnt help with the buttons. You see them and click it, but doesnt do anything. And this button thingy not working is also under Font Manager. Cant delete fonts. Neither it sees my custom fonts.

If i install fonts, you see them. But in Overlay Editor its a default font. If you restart allsky, all installed fonts are gone again. Man so manny thing going on.

font (supercorn) i fixed myself. had wrong name. supercorn font was update a half year ago, i renamed the font, and now it showed up. Only there is still a problem on the visual side of Allsky with the fonts.

If you check the fonts in Overlay Editor you see these default fonts. But the unicorn isnt stated in that list.

If i check font manager, which i showed before, you see all customs fonts i installed on earlier allsky versions. I found these fonts under allsky/config/overlay/fonts. Maybe these directory/fonts doesnt get included in the new version or something.

I guess alot of allsky users are still on bullseye, and will hit the same problem with the buttons, fonts, live map, etc.
