Problem with WiFi

Hello. I run the AllSky software on my Pi and interact with it using AllSky Web UI on my PC desktop. I recently changed internet provider so I could not connect to my Pi on the AllSky Web UI on my PC. I therefore plugged by pi into my new router with a LAN cable and then I could access it on my PC. However, even though I have put my new router name and password into the AllSky web UI, whenever I disconnect the LAN cable I cannot access the PI. The IP address when the LAN cable is connected does not work when it is not connected and when it is not plugged in I cannot see a new IP address when I reboot the PI (I can watch it reboot by plugging a 2nd monitor into the pi). Can someone help, please.

I'm not sure I quite understand what's happening.

Are your PC and Pi on the same home network?

And just to be sure, you are referring to the Allsky WebUI, where you can change settings, look at "Live View", etc., and not to a remote Allsky Website where you can view the latest image, display a constellation overlay, etc.?

Looks like the network option on the AllSky WebUI is not changing the wifi settings on the PI so when I unplug the lan cable and reboot the pi it does not connect to the local router.

To add another layer of complication, when I try to log into allsky directly on my Pi it does not recognise the same username and password I use on the AllSky Web UI.

Re: PC and Pi network. If they are on the same network I don't understand why there would be a problem connecting, unless the router is blocking the connection. When you changed internet providers did you get a new router? If so, perhaps it need to be configured to allow the two devices to talk to each other.

Re: Looks like the network option on the AllSky WebUI is not changing the wifi settings. I don't think that works on the release you're using, as you noticed. On my Pi, next to the clock on the taskbar is an up-and-down-arrow icon. Clicking it allows you to change the Wi-Fi settings.

Re: To add another layer of complication. When you created your Pi OS you specified a login and password. That's what you use when logging into the Pi, for example via ssh. That is totally unrelated to the "login" that the WebUI prompts for, which has defaults of "admin" and "secret".

Thanks Eric, but nothing worked so I ended up just reimaging the SD card and starting from scratch, i.e. reinstalling allsky.
