I would love to see a file-based backend for this, probably with different storage options, like:

• One file per entry
• One file per day
• One file per Month
• Directory structure (I personally would use {year}/{month}/{day}.txt.

Is this something you'd want to implement?

My particular usecase would be to be able to sync my journal(s) with syncthing.
