The workaround is using <anything>.hypixel.net, which does not go through a SRV record but directly to a A record pointing to the right IP.

Issue is it tries to connect to "hypixel.net" the website, it doesn't resolve the SRV record.

_minecraft._tcp.hypixel.net so it is possible that this old version of Minecraft does not have the SRV record handling BUT

Looking at the code for DnsContextFactory it appears that there is one change between jdk8u and jdk17u

Realistically, a mod is likely needed to print more information on this, this "Throwable" catch could be catching the thing that we need.
