The CI failures for Smolagents are happening in jobs targeting both Python 3.10 and 3.14 on Windows 10, with the error surfacing during the uvx --with tox-uv tox r -e ... command. The Smolagents instrumentation explicitly supports Python versions >=3.10, <3.14, as specified in its pyproject.toml—so any attempt to install or test it on Python 3.14 will fail due to version constraints. This is a known pattern: similar failures have occurred for other instrumentations when the CI matrix included unsupported Python versions, especially 3.14, leading to installation or test errors and exit code 2 in CI logs (example).

To resolve this, update the CI matrix and tox.ini to exclude Python 3.14 for Smolagents. Only test on Python versions that match the supported range (3.10, 3.11, 3.12). This will prevent the CI from running unsupported jobs and eliminate these errors. If you want to support Python 3.14, you'll need to update the requires-python constraint and verify compatibility first.

This issue is not unique to Smolagents—other instrumentations (like LiteLLM, Portkey, OpenAI Agents, Haystack, DSPy, LlamaIndex) have encountered the same root cause (reference). There are no Windows-specific overrides in the Smolagents config, so the problem is not platform-specific but rather a version compatibility issue surfaced by the CI matrix setup.
