ShapeAspect aren't correctly assigned to its material layer

Hi revit-ifc team,

Might have found an issue with an IFC file exported from Revit, thought I'd raise this here to get your thought and see if this is an issue replicable on your side.

From the exported IFC file, it appears that the Shape Aspect aren't correctly assigned to its material layer (e.g the tree view (first image) shows Concrete ExtrudedAreaSolid extrusion depth is 12.5mm, Timber 250mm, Gypsum 38mm while the Revit Wall type (second image) shows a different settings)

The export setting we are using is the default: Ifc4 Reference View [Architecture] setup

We are actively working on this issue. It is a result of the 0 thickness layers - they throw off the indexing. We will fix this, but two workarounds : (1) make the 0mm layers a small thickness (like 1mm). (2) remove them.

We are not creating any 0 thickness layers. What you see there with 0.0 is the Core Boundary, which is a Revit internal feature to separate the Core, External and Internal Layers apart. Those can't be modified, they are like separators on the structural table.
So I am not sure if there might be a different issue here.

If you look at the last image, our layers are as follow:

• Structure, Timber 38 mm
• Concrete, Cast In Situ 249.5 mm
• Gypsum Wall Board 12.5 mm

This indexing issue used to happen even without 0 thickness layers.
It was solved 4 days ago and the fix must be included to the next open source release.
Unfortunately, I don't think the workaround exists for this case.

That's great! Any idea of when that release might come out? Would we have to wait until Revit 24?

We can't give you dates but it was a fix in the open source, so that means that it is eligible for Revit 2022/23.
