That would indeed be cool. However, I'm not super familiar with the IntelliJ ecosystem, nor do I have time right now to get this done.

If someone from the community wants to get it done, I would be happy to help in any way I can. I believe @OxygenCobalt also expressed interest at some point.

I had a brief look at this a couple of weeks ago and it seemed that IntelliJ had limited support for LSPs and that support is not available on the free tier, and anyway they have their own API separate from LSP that they seem to really want plugins to use instead.

Does anybody know if this is (still) accurate?

I suggest that you try https://github.com/redhat-developer/lsp4ij which is a free support for lsp and dap for IntelliJ.

You can try it first without developping a plugin with
https://github.com/redhat-developer/lsp4ij/blob/main/docs%2FUserDefinedLanguageServer.md and if you like the lsp support you could develop an intellij plugin with https://github.com/redhat-developer/lsp4ij/blob/main/docs%2FDeveloperGuide.md

Lsp4ij 0.19.0 has been released. You need just to install the release. Any feedback are welcome!

Just a note that I tried vibecoding up an IntelliJ plugin that uses harper-core directly rather than harper-lsp.
I got basic linting working with a commandline Kotlin program but actually integrating ran into problems that look to be typical Gradle horrors and version incompatibilities.

If anyone is interested in contributing to it or just looking at it, especially anyone who knows IntelliJ and/or Gradle stuff better than me, let me know and I'll put a repo on GitHub.
