WordPress.com themes: highlight active item #8695

Description

Most or at least many of our themes don't highlight an active menu item, e.g., with an underline or a different background/color. The HTML code is prepared: we have the .current-menu-item class, but most of the users don't know how to add this or don't even know it would be good to have it, and CSS help is out of our scope of support. It would be great if it was a default feature (editable from the editor or not)

I had an interaction 9412890-zd-a8c where I decided to share CSS as an exception and still, it was far from perfect because (at least I suspect that was the reason) they had some items that were not pages > the menu item just held the subitems and in that case, the sub-items would not get the current-menu-item class so the top level menu item would not get the styling.
