can't change author username or user

Hi,
I just installed wordpress-activitypub on a wordpress website. But it's a bit frustrating because I can't change the default author of plugin, or i would expect to be able to have more than a single author. Also on my wordpress configurations is not allowed to change my username, so makes this plugin not usable. 👎

but i've used it before, and i known is great, what am I doing wrong? 🤔

Steps to reproduce

install wordpress-activitypub. Go to definitions -> ActivityPub

try to change the Author Profile, can't.

you can have as many users as you want. per default every user on a blog is enabled for ActivityPub and you can add/remove the ability on the users page wp-admin/users.php.

the plugin tries to work exactly as mastodon and other social networks... it uses the username you have chosen when creating the account. so to change the username, you "simply" have to change the username of your WordPress installation. sadly WordPress does not allow that out of the box, but you can either change it in the DB or use a plugin for that: https://wordpress.org/plugins/change-username/ (have not tested this specific plugin).

if you only want to have one user, you can setup the plugin, to the "Blog profile only" mode. because this is no real user, the plugin supports changing this username to whatever you want.

Btw. we have also planned to support renaming for "normal" users, but this is a bit tricky, because it interferes with a lot of WordPress core functions and we have to get sure that there are no naming collisions with existing users: #915

well, i've tried to understand how to activate activitypub for other users. but i can't.

look im a power user, i've developed wordpress websites, i've used this plugin since the first releases... and i have no idea how-to do stuff.

when you mention i can do this and that, can you please link to somewhere? So I can figure out how-to do it. thank you

about the index.php from permalinks, i will try, this is just a website passed to me, and i felt like enabling this plugin. i dont want to trash their website
