I don't think that you will get an answer here. I don't think that anyone has done the experiments.

The text editor control was originally developed for a code editor (SharpDevelop). That means, it was designed for typical source code files. It was not intended to be a general-purpose text editor handling extreme cases.

You will need to do your own experiments. Specifically, I suggest testing with and without syntax highlighing.

I suggest moving this issue to Discussions where users can share their findings.

Due to vertical scrolling virtualization (line virtualization) this editor supports opening quite big files. What is not smooth is the horizontal scrolling with quite big minified files (all the contents in a single line). Reason is that the horizontal scrolling doesn't support virtualization. But as @mgarstenauer pointed it would be interesting performing your own tests.
