[Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.Storage.Queues] No request telemetry from storage extension

I have an Azure Functions Queue and Blob Trigger, but I don’t see any request telemetry. I’ve added "Azure.*" to the OpenTelemetry TraceProviderBuilder, and while I can see consumer spans from Service Bus and Event Hub, there is no telemetry from the storage extension.

There is no processing client for queues - Azure Functions pull messages from the queue and implement processing loop. Also queues don't have a place to put context in - no custom modifiable metadata we can propagate stuff.

So Functions, can instrument processing loop, but context propagation won't be possible. there is not much we can do tbh.

With blob triggers, there is also no context propagation mechanism, blob trigger is based on pulling (and then is responsible for server/consumer span instrumentation) or receives notification from EventGrid (and then HTTP should be the trigger)

Thanks, @lmolkova! I was hoping it would at least generate a new activity and capture details like duration, status, and other relevant information. Let me read more about the trigger to understand what can be done here.

Ah, I forgot we have Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.Storage.Queues and Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.Storage.Blobs - the instrumentation would go there, but we'd have to forget about the context propagation or need to be creative with it

Based on @lmolkova's feedback, this behavior is expected and not something that would be resolved in the Azure SDK package.

@jsquire I think we can resolve it to some extent in the Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.Storage.Queues and Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.Storage.Blobs, I just forgot we own them :)
So I'm going to reopen at least for tracking purposes, if you don't mind.
