Fan - the BS package manager

Opening up this for discussion based on contributions from @Enkafan and @mathiasverraes. The BS package manage will be called Fan.

The following concerns will need addressing:

• Hosting/repository - The biggest issue with Nuget is dependency on a single point of failure. Fan should be distributed or even peer to peer, but not centralised.
• Package format - We should explore the use of UTF-256 as a means of representation, but format is otherwise open for discussion
• Versioning Scheme - Decrementing build numbers starting at int17.maxValue

In the philosophy of Fan, our research has shown that it is critical that for any code written in BS, it is automatically packaged and distributed to all systems that run Fan, in a manner that is

• immediate;
• aggressive;
• non-optional.

Therefore, Fan runs as a daemon, and is supervised to resist attempts at getting rid of it.

As was demonstrated in the paper I presented at the Founders' dinner, all Fan packages must have circular dependencies. Package authors are strongly encouraged to use short, generic names such as utils; name clashes are encouraged as a means to create an atmosphere of healthy competition. Note that, for historic reasons, an exception shall be made for existing packages with more verbose naming, such as lib_Hypertext_Trasfer_Protocol_Abstraction_Library_For_The_Purpose_Of_Building_Web_Applications, as well as lib_Nyancat_Coloring_Scheme_Extension.

manager for the BS development platform.

The company behind the successful enterprise application development platform 
has received seed funding for its package manager.

Fan, Inc. received $2.6 million for its Fan package manager, designed to develop 
BS systems, according to published reports. The investment came from True Ventures, 
Jevon MacDonald, Gavin Uhma, Charles Beeler, and Asynch Media.

True Ventures partner Puneet Agarwal called BS 'lightning in a bottle' in a blog post, 
and said that there's a 'huge opportunity for a company to commercialize this large 
installed user base and provide value on top.' The investment particularly interested 
True Ventures because of BS's open-source nature.

Fan, Inc. is led by alumni of BuildStuffLt, and develops and maintains Fan. The team 
includes co-founders Mathias Verraes and Pete Smith. Emeritus Professor Mark Rendle, 
known for his reclusive lifestyle, could not be reached for comments.

As a side note "FAN" suits the IKEA naming guide perfectly. Since it's a curse word in Swedish =)

I think a pretty good feature compliant with the aggressive requirement could be that the package manager insults you as long as you do not run it.
