He took over from former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of PDP during the 2015 presidential election. He was also a major general in the Nigerian army and served as the military head of state of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985.</p>

          <p>President Buhari was born on 17th December 1942 in Daura, Katsina State, to Adamu and Zulaiha Buhari. He was raised by his mother after his father died when Buhari was four. He attended primary school in Daura and Maidua (1948–1952), then Katsina Middle School (1953), and Katsina Provincial Secondary School (1956–1961). He married Safinatu Yusuf (1971–1988), then Aisha Halilu from 1989, and had ten children.</p>

          <p>Buhari entered politics in 2003, contesting presidential elections under the ANPP and CPC before joining the APC in 2013. Though he lost multiple elections, he remained consistent in his political vision and support base.</p>
          <p>In 2011, running on the CPC platform, Buhari placed second. He rejected flawed elections, built alliances, and eventually ran again in 2015 under APC.</p>

          <p>He was re-elected in 2019, making him the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria’s history.</p>
