Avatar size on conversations blocks messages

I use a Motorola razr and have had some success adapting openbubbles to accommodate the smaller external screen. However, the avatars in the chat conversations remain so large that they effectively block the messages even though it's set to the smallest size. It would be great if you could eliminate the avatar all together.
