Issue Description

The speed of jupyter execution is slow and causes a slow build of the docs (amongst others --> the automatic reference builder is slow also)

Please be aware of the following functionality that still should work after refactoring

• downloading examples as .py and .ipynb
• the image rendering works a bit different for markdown-exec compared to jupyter notebooks
