Proposal: move to Java 22+

If you raise the floor of Java from Jav 8 to Java 22, then you have the option of using Java's Foreign Function & Memory API (FFA) to remove the native code and libraries. You still have to make native calls, but there will be no need for the precompiled C libraries... and the C code.

Hi @ChristopherSchultz, thank you for your suggestion. I will look into this, as I haven't heard of this feature before (it's been a while since I've used a new Java feature). I agree with you that this could be a very valuable feature as it would prevent releases from having to carry around compiled binaries of the C code for every arch-OS combination. That being said, I also chose JDK 8 as it maintains a low compatibility requirement. I know personally several people who are still using JDK 11 and I would imagine others may still be using older JDK versions as well. I will have to think about how to balance these two, as JDK 22 is even more recent than the LTS release I would be interested in targeting (JDK 21). Additionally I am not sure how this will interact with the single external library I use, JNativeHook. I've been meaning to write my own replacement but that itself is a fairly large undertaking. Nonetheless I am interested in this and will look into it further!
