SteamVR 2.8.8 "vrserver has crashed"

After driver instillation SteamVR now fails to launch in a working configuration.

when I try to launch, I get the "hello from lens server" dialog, sometimes multiple windows of it, and then I start getting repeated notifications from abrt-applet that "vrwebserver has crashed". Eventually steamVR will launch but with an error 301 and in a non-functional state.

system info:
Fedora 41
Kenrnel 6.12.6 with the VivePro2 patches.
Latest driver from the patreon page.
