About naming colors, I suggest this website, that name colors and you can use the names instead of trying to name the colors.

Specific about Grayscale, I suggest the approach I described, that is something like this:

white (gray-0): #fff
gray-20: #bbb
gray-40: #999
gray-60: #666
gray-80: #444
black (gray-100): #000
