Set up a Claude Desktop project for Q&A about your research papers and essay writing.
- Claude Pro or Max subscription
- Notion account with the research workspace set up
- Notion MCP connector enabled in Claude Desktop
- Open Claude Desktop
- Go to Projects -> Create Project
- Name: "Academic Research" (or your essay title)
Copy the contents of claude-desktop/instructions.md into the project's custom instructions field.
If you know your database IDs (from Notion URL: the 32-character hex string after the database name), replace the placeholders. Otherwise, Claude can discover them via notion-search.
- In the project settings, ensure the Notion connector is enabled
- Claude can now read and write to your Notion databases
If you've exported research briefs (from Cowork's /research skill or manually), add them as project knowledge:
- Save brief as
research-brief.md - Add to project knowledge files
- Claude can now reference this during essay writing
"What papers do I have on peer support in community mental health?"
"Which of my papers are meta-analyses?"
"What are the main contradictions in my literature?"
"Help me draft the literature review section using my annotated papers"
"Generate an argument outline from my core papers"
"Check which papers I haven't read yet for my essay on peer support"
"Add this paper to my Research Papers database: [paste DOI]"
"Update the stage of my essay project to 'drafting'"
"Show me my essay progress"
