Cannot collect Orbital Mapping Data experiment from KG/SG series film cameras #1596

Description

@Amarius1

I had encountered this issue repeatedly along my Career playthroughs with BDB, which restricts me from completing any "perform photo reconaissance" contracts, since the experiment does not store in the part and thus cannot be collected via the film return capsule. I have gotten it to work on some rare occasions but it seems no matter what I do - while having the camera deployed, I cannot get the experiment to be stored.

Is this a known issue or am I not doing something right?

Edit: I have gotten it to work but the behaviour is very weird. For the camera module to properly save the experiment the following steps have to be reproduced

  1. "Deploy"
  2. Hit "Start orbital reconnaissance"
  3. Wait till you're over the target area on the daylight side
  4. Hit "Perform orbital mapping" in the camera part action menu
  5. FIRMLY hold on the save button to save the experiment on-board as KSP might just not register the click
  6. Pray that it did save
  7. Collecting it will now work

However:

  1. Simply having the camera deployed won't be enough, starting orbital recon also seems to be needed.
  2. Quickloading will reset the animated status of the camera (I assume this applies to all KH/SG series) so step 1 and 2 need to be repeated every single time.

Looking at the .cfg file of the cameras and how their experiment is defined in the module, it should automatically execute the required animations or cancel the experiment with helper text displayed, instead of consuming a film canister and not saving it - this is because the experiment will only run once the animations have completed, i.e. Deployed status.

If 1 and 2 are not manually executed by the user the film canister will be consumed, the experiment will not be recorded even if you hit on the green Save button, and you will not be able to collect it with the film return capsule, wasting the entire mission.

@CobaltWolf are you guys aware of the weird behaviour? I do have ScanSat installed so maybe something in the patches is acting wrong? Try reproducing it for yourself - thank you in advance.
