Idk, maybe I'm making something wrong, but if I trying to entry atmosphere from free-return Moon trajectory (like IRL) - CM just explodes due overheating. Most interesting - heatshield itself isn't exlodes and after CM exloding its continue flying.
PS. It's in KSRSS, so entry speed is around 5km/s. But iirc atmosphere in KSRSS is same to Kerbin.
PPS. Same thing in CoM version of CM. The only two methods how don't explode what I found - very fast spinning on edge of stability (with very unrealistic speed) or hold A/D and S buttons in braking moment (on edge of critical temperature).
PPPS. Angle of entry don't change situation.
