Welcome. If you made it here, you probably already sense that the tools to properly manage wilderness territories don't exist yet.
This is where we build them.
We are not a company. We don't have an onboarding department. We are a small group working from a remote valley in Chilean Patagonia, convinced that open source code can help protect what remains of the planet.
We are not an outside consultancy parachuting into someone else's territory. We are people with a decade of work on the ground, members of the organizations that manage this land, with deep ties to the communities, arrieros, guides, and families who inhabit it.
If that resonates with you, you are welcome here.
If you have an idea Open an Issue. Describe what you see, what's missing, what you could build. You don't need permission. You don't need a perfect format.
If you want to write code
- Fork the repository
- Create a branch with a descriptive name (
sensor-integration,visitor-dashboard, etc.) - Write, test, document
- Open a Pull Request and tell us what you did and why
If you don't write code We also need help with documentation, translation, design, biodiversity research, territorial knowledge, and connections with other protected areas around the world. Open an Issue and tell us what you bring.
- Ecological sensors and connectivity in remote areas (LoRa, Starlink, hardware)
- AI-powered species identification (camera traps, audio)
- Vegetation change detection via satellite (Sentinel, Landsat)
- Visitor management and public use systems
- Safety and coordination in the field
This is a Hippie Hub. That means:
- The code belongs to everyone
- Decisions are made through open conversation
- No unnecessary hierarchies
- The territory rules — solutions must work in the real world, not just in the lab
- If something you built helps protect a forest in Africa or a reserve in the Andes, that is exactly what we are here for
Problems listed here are real. They come from a decade of work in the territory and from deep ties with the communities, organizations, and people who inhabit it. We can't guarantee implementation — but we can guarantee the conversation reaches the right people.
We work in Spanish and English. Issues, pull requests, and comments can be in either language. Don't worry about the language — worry about the idea.
Let's navigate the frontier.
