Description
Which module(s) and week(s) does this change affect?
Module(s): User Focused Data
Week(s): 1 2 3
What is the work that needs to be done?
Consider revising module 1 to be possible to do without a personal computer, using github.dev / dot dev in the browser
Why is this work important to do?
We hit the Windows hell again. We hit Linux pain again. We knew this would happen because it always happens. We spent over 6 weeks dealing with it last year before the course and we still didn't actually resolve the issues, so we know throwing more time at the problem isn't the right direction.
We are not guaranteeing laptops in this module. This feels like a huge constraint but maybe it's clarifying for this problem? The question is the same: how can we maximise access while still making this a meaningful introduction to actual programming. But maybe one solution is dot dev.

This would mean pushing the Linux setup to stretch for Module 1 and setting it instead in Module 2
Rewriting our position on Windows again
Revising or removing anything set in this module that dot dev cannot accomplish (except things already handled like Google Sheets or Code In Place)
Additional context
We are trying this out as a backstop to help blocked trainees make progress in ITP #1. @moneyinthesky made a fabulous video. Let's try to log our observations, questions, comments, concerns on here and help @CodeYourFuture/itp-syllabus-team make a decision for ITP 2 in Jan.
Who might need to know about this change?
