Which module(s) and week(s) does this change affect?
Module(s): all modules, but let's start from Git/Induction
Week(s):

What is the work that needs to be done?
Start removing any Windows setup advice from the Syllabus (and docs)

We still have some trainees on the course (WM3/GL5/NW4) running Windows so we should start doing this from the beginning modules and then move forward by these dates:

NOV: FUN | GIT | HTML | JS-1 | JS-2 | JS-3
JAN : REACT
MARCH : NODE
APRIL: DATABASES
JUNE: FINAL PROJECTS

Why is this work important to do?

We are dropping support for Windows, for many reasons long discussed (but briefly)

  • the endless setup problems are a massive time sink and most volunteers struggle to help because they don't run Windows
  • we make them all use Linux in the Cloud track and CYF Products anyway
  • the slow compilation times (eg nearly 5 minutes to start create-react-app) unfairly disadvantage trainees running Windows

But now we are confusing trainees in setup as the most extensive advice is for Windows and none of them are allowed to use it. So we should start taking it out.
