I still have this issue. The whole "Internal Error"-window also freezes, and I have to use Task Manager to close the program.
Before the freeze, it copies the following info to the clipboard:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Preparation steps:

1. Download the Win11_24H2_EnglishInternational_x64.iso from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
2. Mount the iso, copy the sources/install.wim to some other folder, in my case Downloads

DISMTools steps:

1. Install DISMTools from the latest prerelease dt_setup.exe
2. Launch dismtools
3. Click new project in the left menu & create a new project on the desktop
4. Click mount image
5. Try to mount index 1 of the image with the settings show here, click ok
   
6. The error occurs. There appears a popup on the original window like so:
   
   And of course the error window on top of that:
   
   It's not possible to move the windows around or close them.

(The screenshots and the copied error is from the latest stable version, but the exact same error message appears on the latest prerelease, except for the version reported obviously being different)
(That is to say, this happens on both v0.6.2_250406 and v0.6.1 Update 1)

The program also generates diagnostic logs featuring every operation. These are called DynaLog logs.

Can you share your log file? It's in <program directory>\logs\DT_DynaLog.log. For example:

@asdf141, for some reason, background processes finish on your end abruptly at the process of getting packages. Can you get this information with DISM? Run the following command as an administrator and report back:

• dism /english /image=<mount directory of LTSC image goes here> /get-packages
• dism /english /image=<mount directory of LTSC image goes here> /get-features (to determine if you can get past package information)

I couldn't replicate this on both Windows 11 and 10 and an IoT Enterprise LTSC image:

I noticed that mounting an image works in v0.6_upd1.
It doesn't work in v0.6.1_stable.
This time i didn't use the installer, but instead downloaded the zip files and ran the portable app.

I was trying to mount Y:\sources\install.wim as read-only.
The C:\Users\vince\Downloads\install.wim was previously used in an another verison of the app and was left mounted, which is why it is detected as such. So it can probably be ignored here, even though it shows up in the logs.
The logs were made with a fresh copy of v0.6.1_stable that didn't have any previous logs.
Same with the other images in downloads.

This is done in order to detect whether or not the image contains Windows Vista or earlier (yes, those "PoS Win9x images" as well)

Yes, I know Windows 9X never used Windows Imaging. Client Windows XP editions never used Windows Imaging either. But the user could capture such installations into a Windows image for science.

• If the image contains Vista, you'd see a dialog that would make you unmount it. DISM doesn't support Vista images
• If the image contains XP or earlier, it's automatically unmounted. No buts.

ntoskrnl.exe is required for a Windows NT-based system to boot up (it's the kernel and system). This error happens if the program can't get version information.

Can you try to get this version information with PowerShell? Try this as an admin:
