Splitter Plug not detecting correct dimensions

Problem

I'm currently using the Tin bronze splitter plug, but I assume that it affects all types.
I'm trying to get the 1x4x16 dimension to work, but it doesn't detect it correctly.

Here is what I do (simplified):

1. Standing at [X=0,Y=100,Z=0]
2. Putting a plug down where I stand; the model of the 3 plugs on the block aligns horizontally (to my monitor) when I'm looking at it from above
3. Going forward to the 5th block by pressing W
4. Standing at [4,100,0]
5. Digging down 16 blocks at the 5th block
6. Standing at [4,84,0]
7. Turn around 180° so I look towards the first plug
8. Adding the second plug to the wall at the bottom of the hole
9. Wanting to hammer the plug in - won't work.

Please check if the dimensions are working correctly.
