Yup. The layoffs included me. Don't worry, I'll be fine.

As far as the project...

I have a commitment from Stack to discuss the future of dnscontrol once the dust settles. I don't expect anything unreasonable. I'll be proposing moving the project to a new github org and maintaining it there, along with patreon (or whatever the cool kids use now a days). Once we have an agreement the transition might take a while because, ya know, it's software.

Update:

DNSControl's indepedence is moving forward!

• Good news: Stack Overflow and I have signed an agreement detailing the specifics around transferring the Github repos and the dnscontrol.org DNS domain to me. The agreement was signed on Thu, 23-Apr-2026 at (approximately) 4pm US/Eastern.

• More good news: This morning (Fri, 24-April-2026) we met with someone from Stack Overflow to begin the transfers. We identified what access/permissions would be required on his side, and opened relevant tickets with his IT department. We'll continue via email with weekly meetings until all the transfers are complete. Thanks to Stack for assigning this to someone so quickly!

• Even more good news: I'm excited to announce that on Monday I start as a Staff Software Engineer at CoreWeave. Their open source policies are compatible with me continuing to maintain and improve DNSControl (on my own time, same as before).

• PRs are still on hold until the Github repo is transferred.

I hope to post another update this time next week or sooner.

Progress!

As you may have noticed, the repos are moving. We have one left to go.

New releases should start flowing eventually. It may be a week or two since I'll be traveling.

That said, it's things are moving forward.
