EduMind

The teacher 300 million students never had.

1st Place — Bincom Hackathon 5.0

EduMind is a multimodal AI tutor built in 24 hours for students across Africa and India who lack access to quality education. It accepts text, voice, and photos of textbook pages, then responds with grade-adapted explanations, auto-generated chemistry and physics diagrams, and practice quizzes tuned to WAEC, NECO, and UTME exam formats.

Deployed as a PWA that works on any Android phone. No app store required.

What it does

  • Multimodal input — type a question, speak it, or photograph a textbook page
  • Grade-adapted responses — explains concepts at the right level for the student
  • Auto-generated diagrams — chemistry equations, physics force diagrams rendered on demand
  • Exam practice — WAEC, NECO, and UTME past question style quizzes
  • Works offline-first — PWA installable on any Android device

Stack

  • React
  • Groq LLM (fast inference)
  • Vision API (photo-to-text understanding)
  • Web Speech API (voice input)
  • PWA (installable, works on low-end Android)

Why it matters

300 million students across sub-Saharan Africa and India are underserved by their education systems. Most cannot afford private tutors. EduMind gives every student access to an infinitely patient, always-available tutor that understands their curriculum.

Built in 24 hours at Bincom Hackathon 5.0. Won first place.
