Can't create E3SM case

Hello,
This is probably a very basic question, but I can't create a case using the default shell script provided with a little modifications. Although I'm on an unsupported supercomputer, I think this error doesn't come from the environment configuration. I did add the configuration for the environment in <E3SM_dir>/cime_config/machines/config_machines.xml.

This is the error

Did not find an alias or longname compset match for WCYCL1850
ERROR: Makes no sense to have empty read-only file: /work/aaron900129/E3SMv3/code/latest/components/cmeps/cime_config/config_component.xml

I also tried the X for the compset and it showed the same errors.

After this, I tried create_newcase alone but it was the same.

For this path you mention:
components/cmeps/cime_config/config_component.xml

What is cmeps? I don't see that in the repo, are you trying to add a new component?

the message about not having the WCYCL1850 alias is weird. This should be defined in this file:
cime_config/allactive/config_compsets.xml
Do you see WCYCL1850 mentioned there?

If you have a CIME_MODEL environment variable, make sure it is set to E3SM.

The problem was solved after I set the environment variable to e3sm. I think the components/cmeps/cime_config/config_component.xml is probably the default path that CIME searches for, so it shows the weird errors.
