zppy was primarily designed with the workflow from https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ED/pages/2309226536/Running+E3SM+step-by-step+guide in mind.

Notably, this includes short-term archiving (specific section: https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ED/pages/2309226536/Running+E3SM+step-by-step+guide#Short-Term-Archiving) before running zppy.

The default values for instances of input_subdir (https://github.com/E3SM-Project/zppy/blob/main/zppy/templates/default.ini, currently L33 input_subdir = string(default="archive/atm/hist") and L276 input_subdir = string(default="archive/ocn/hist")) were chosen based on the assumption that short-term archiving was completed.

If you did not do short-term archiving, you will likely need to specify your own values for input_subdir.
