I'll start with a clarification...

The variable $DXProt::pc92_ad_enabled is to enable the A and D logging/sending messages?
Is this not the default behavior after installation, at least of the more recent releases?

Yes, it is. But there are sysops that decided to disable it, which is why the variable appears in the summary.
Some people don't remember that they modified it, because if you don't look at the variable you can't know.
Also, there is a possible bug that I reported to Dirk.
When you query the variable, it does not return ‘1’, even if it is active. If you set it to ‘1’, then it does.
Do the test.

I did take notice of that behavior with your recent summary command. When I run summary, that variable reports undefined. Yet, in DXProt.pm, it is indeed set to 1. Did some digging earlier after my message...

Next question...

I run my node as a virtual machine under Proxmox on a DMZ network in the house. After going back through some of the email exchanges I see these two variables:

$main::localhost_alias_ipv4
$main::localhost_names

From what I gather the alias should have my external IP address added? Internal address added to the names variable?

I found the answer in the startup script Kin posted in the DXSpider newsgroup.

set/var $main::localhost_alias_ipv4 = '<public_ip>'
set/var @main::localhost_names ('127.0.0.1', '::1', '<local_ip>')
