UI is laggy, freezes eventually when RTC battery low

Current Behavior

On my Taranis X10 I observed the UI to be rather laggy, and eventually after a couple of minutes idle to freeze entirely. Nothing on the display would change. However, holding the power button for +6 seconds would still turn the radio of, and the inactivity alarm message sounded, so not everything in the software locked up. I observed this behavior with multiple EdgeTX versions up to and including centurion.

I always thought this was just a regression due to the old hardware, since the X10 is only on community support. However, when I replace the (super weak, ~0.3 volt left) RTC battery and set the date to the current time, the problem went away!

Expected Behavior

UI works properly even when the date is set to 2000 and the RTC is not ticking

Steps To Reproduce

• Remove the RTC battery.
• Reboot the radio.

Is there a possibility that a dysfunctional RTC causes havoc in the rendering? Is it maybe used for some cyclic task, does not trigger without the RTC battery?
