Whispering translates output

Hi,

Whispering unwantedly translates my spoken german into English. When output language is set to auto and I speak german it translates the text to english. I don't want that. It should just transcribe the text but should not translate it.

Thanks for reporting! I haven’t checked this yet, but the team will investigate.

There are some settings that might help:

Settings > Transcription > Output Language

By default it is "auto". Try setting it to German. (It seems you already know about this setting...)

Settings > Transcription > System Prompt

The transcription is done via generative AI. So adding instruction here may help. Like "Never translate spoken German to any other language. Just transcribe all spoken German without translation."

Hi,
thank you for your reply. I already tried both. Setting from auto to german helps but then I usually switch between english and german quite often and then i would have to change the setting frequently which is not so great. Having a an auto setting that works properly would be fantastic.

The system prompt didn't help me in that case.

The PR has not been merged yet, so it may not be officially available for a while. However, if you are ambitious, you can build and run this branch yourself!
