[Bug]: Unable to install with 2026.08.17 ISO

Hello.

I tried to install in a VMWare Workstation virtual machine Antergos-NeXT with its last official ISO.

I got an error in the beginning of installation package, with an error 1. See attached screenshot.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Grab 2026.08.17 ISO
2. Create a VirtualMachine
3. Use Calamares Online installation
4. Go to install step
5. Click install and wait

Expected Behavior

Installation going on.

Actual Behavior

I got an error 1 while trying to install base - antergos-next-keyring - antergos release packages.

hey fredbezies, thanks for the detailed report — and for using the iso!

this is a known bug in the 2026.08.17 online installer (the release page carries a known issue warning about it). it's not something you did wrong, and it's not vmware-specific.

what happens: the online installer (arranxo) verifies the repo's signed packages against the antergos keyring before the target system is bootstrapped. the target keyring isn't seeded yet at that point, so verification fails with "error 1" on the base packages and aborts the install.

workaround for now: the offline install option from the same iso completes successfully — but heads up, it installs a base system without a desktop environment, so you'd need to install one afterwards (e.g. pacman -S plasma-meta etc.).

fix status: the real fix (seeding the keyring into the target before basestrap) is implemented in the dev tree and will ship in the next iso. i'll reply here when the fixed iso is released.
