Rescue user docs from extrachill-docs#25 #7

Description

@chubes4

Context

These user-facing documentation drafts were hand-written against extrachill-docs before that repo retired its WP-as-source-of-truth model. Under the new dual-runtime architecture (extrachill-docs#31), user docs for this platform live in this repo under docs/user/.

They are calibration anchors for the first Automattic/docs-agent run against this repo (per Extra-Chill/extrachill-docs#34). When docs-agent runs, incorporate, refine, or replace these as the agent sees fit. They are not required to ship verbatim — they are evidence of the topics that matter and the editorial voice that fits.

# Chat with the Extra Chill assistant

There's a friendly assistant living on every Extra Chill site, ready to help you find a show, dig up an article, update your artist page, or just answer a question about the music we cover. It's the fastest way to get something done on Extra Chill without clicking around.

## Where to find it

Look for the chat button in the bottom corner of any page on Extra Chill. Click it and a small chat window slides open.

![Chat button in the corner of the page](screenshot-needed-1.png)

You can also go straight to [chat.extrachill.com](https://chat.extrachill.com) for a full-page version.

## How to start

Type a question or a request the same way you'd text a friend who happens to know everything about Extra Chill. Hit enter and you'll get a reply in a few seconds.

Some examples to get you going:

- "What shows are happening in Charleston this weekend?"
- "Find me that article about the Pour House last month."
- "Add a Spotify link to my artist page."
- "Show me my unread community notifications."

![An example back-and-forth in the chat window](screenshot-needed-2.png)

## It can actually do things, not just talk

The assistant isn't only there to answer questions. If you're signed in, it can also take action on your behalf — adding a link to your artist page, posting a reply in the community, updating your profile bio, and more. It will always tell you what it did so you can double-check.

If you'd rather it just looked something up without changing anything, say so. "Just tell me, don't change it" works fine.

## Sign in for the good stuff

You can chat without an account, but signing in unlocks the parts that touch your own pages — your artist profile, your community posts, your link page. Without an account, you'll still get answers, you just can't ask the assistant to update your stuff.

## Picking up where you left off

Your past chats are saved to your account, so you can close the window and come back later without losing the thread. If you'd rather start clean, you can clear your history any time from the chat menu.

talk-to-the-assistant-from-your-phones-messaging-app.md

# Talk to the assistant from your phone's messaging app

You can text the Extra Chill assistant from the same app you use to text your friends. iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Instagram DMs, even SMS — pick the one you already use and chat with the assistant just like a contact.

It works the same as the chat window on the website. You ask, it answers. You can ask it to find shows, update your artist page, or anything else you'd ask it on the site — only now you can do it from your lock screen.

## What you'll need

- An Extra Chill account (free — sign up at [extrachill.com](https://extrachill.com) if you don't have one)
- A phone with whatever messaging app you already use
- A free account with [Beeper](https://www.beeper.com), the app we use to connect Extra Chill to your messengers

Beeper is a single app that connects all your messengers — iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, the works — into one place. We use it to connect your phone's messengers to Extra Chill. You'll only need to set it up once.

## Step 1 — Get Beeper

Download **Beeper** from the App Store or Google Play. Open it and create a free account.

![Beeper app on a phone home screen](screenshot-needed-1.png)

Once you're in, follow Beeper's prompts to connect whichever messengers you want to use — iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, and so on. Beeper has its own help articles for each one if you get stuck.

## Step 2 — Add Extra Chill as a contact

Inside Beeper, search for **Extra Chill** and start a new chat. The first message you'll see is a welcome from the assistant asking you to sign in.

![Welcome message from Extra Chill in Beeper](screenshot-needed-2.png)

## Step 3 — Sign in once

The welcome message has a link. Tap it. It opens Extra Chill in your phone's browser and asks you to sign in with your Extra Chill account, the same one you use on the website. Sign in, tap **Allow**, and you're done.

You only do this step the first time. After that, the assistant knows it's you whenever you message.

## Step 4 — Just text it

That's the whole setup. From now on, the assistant shows up in your messenger like any other contact. Send it a message — "any shows in Austin this weekend?" — and a reply comes back the same way.

## Tips

- **Pin the chat.** Most messaging apps let you pin a contact to the top. Worth doing.
- **It works the same as the website.** Anything you can ask in the chat window on Extra Chill, you can ask from your phone.
- **Group chats are okay too.** You can add the assistant to a group with friends — handy when you're planning a night out and want everyone to see what's playing.
- **Sign out from the website.** If you ever want to disconnect, you can do that from your account settings on Extra Chill. After that, the assistant won't recognize you in the messenger anymore.

## Need help?

If something didn't connect or you can't find Extra Chill in your messenger, [contact us](https://extrachill.com/contact/) or post in the [community forum](https://community.extrachill.com).

what-we-do-with-what-you-say.md

# What we do with what you say

When you chat with the Extra Chill assistant, you're sharing your words with us. We want to be clear about what happens to those words — what we save, who can read them, how long we keep them, and how to clean them up.

No legalese. Just plain answers.

## What gets saved

When you send a message, we save:

- The message you typed
- The assistant's reply
- The time it happened
- Your account, if you're signed in

That's it. We don't record audio, we don't track your mouse, and we don't save anything you didn't type into the chat box.

## Why we save it

Two reasons. First, so you can come back tomorrow and pick up where you left off without retyping everything. Second, so the assistant has context for follow-up questions — if you say "add another one like that," it needs to know what "that" was.

## Who can read your chats

Your chats are tied to your account. By default, only you can see them. A small number of Extra Chill staff can look at chat history if we're investigating a problem — for example, if the assistant is giving wrong answers, or if someone reports abuse. We don't browse chats casually and we don't share them with anyone outside Extra Chill for marketing or advertising.

If you're not signed in, your chat is tied to your browser session and disappears when you clear your cookies or switch devices.

## We use a service to help understand your message

To actually answer you, we send your message to a service that's good at understanding language. The service reads the message, figures out what you're asking, and sends a reply back to us — which we then show you.

A few important things about that service:

- It only sees the chat you're having. It does not see your email, your password, your payment info, or anything else from your Extra Chill account.
- It does not use your messages to train anything or sell anything to you.
- It does not store your chat after answering.

We chose a service that takes privacy seriously. We're happy to keep this short rather than dump a wall of legal text on you, but if you want the full picture, our [privacy policy](https://extrachill.com/privacy-policy/) has the longer version.

## How long we keep your history

Your chat history sticks around as long as your Extra Chill account does, unless you delete it.

If you ever delete your Extra Chill account, your chat history goes with it.

## How to clear your history

You can wipe your chat history any time from inside the chat window. Open the menu, choose **Clear History**, and confirm. It's instant and it's permanent — once it's gone, we can't bring it back.

![The clear history option inside the chat menu](screenshot-needed-1.png)

If you'd rather only delete part of a conversation, just clear the whole thing and start a fresh one — we don't currently support deleting individual messages.

## What you should not put in chat

A few simple rules of thumb:

- **Don't paste passwords.** Not yours, not anyone else's. The assistant doesn't need them and shouldn't see them.
- **Don't share other people's private info.** Phone numbers, addresses, anything personal that isn't yours to share.
- **Don't paste payment card numbers.** If you're trying to do something with a purchase, the assistant can point you to the right place to do it safely.

If you accidentally pasted something sensitive, clear your history and you're good.

## Questions about your data

If you want to know exactly what we have stored for your account, or if you want all of it deleted, [contact us](https://extrachill.com/contact/) and we'll handle it. We aim to respond within a few days.

## Need help?

For anything else, [contact us](https://extrachill.com/contact/) or post in the [community forum](https://community.extrachill.com).

what-you-can-ask-it.md

# What you can ask it

The Extra Chill assistant is more useful than it looks. Here's a tour of the kinds of things it can help you with — pick whatever fits and try it. The best way to learn what it can do is to ask.

## Find something to do this week

The assistant knows every show on our calendar, sorted by city and date. Try:

- "What's happening in Charleston tonight?"
- "Any shows in Austin this weekend?"
- "Who's playing at the Pour House next month?"
- "Find me a free show this Friday."

![Asking about local shows in the chat](screenshot-needed-1.png)

## Track down something we wrote

Can't remember which post mentioned that song or that band? Just describe it.

- "What was that article about the new Wednesday album?"
- "Find me the post that mentioned a band from Brooklyn called Geese."
- "Who wrote the Charleston Pour House review last fall?"

If we covered it, the assistant will find it and link you straight to it.

## Manage your artist page

If you're signed in and you have an artist profile, you can run it from the chat:

- "Add my new Spotify link."
- "Change the city on my profile to Asheville."
- "Update my bio — I'll paste in the new one."
- "Show me what links are on my page right now."

![Updating an artist page through chat](screenshot-needed-2.png)

The assistant always confirms what it changed before saving.

## Jump into the community

You can also use chat to keep up with the [Extra Chill Community](https://community.extrachill.com) without leaving the page you're on:

- "What forums are in the community?"
- "Show me my unread notifications."
- "Read me the latest topic in Live Music."
- "Reply to that thread for me — here's what I want to say…"

## Update your profile

Your community profile is editable from chat too:

- "Change my profile title to Concert Photographer."
- "Update my bio."
- "Add a link to my Bandcamp on my profile."

## Just ask

The list above isn't exhaustive. If you can describe what you want in a sentence, try it. If the assistant can't do it, it'll say so and tell you where to go instead.

## Need help?

If you're stuck or something didn't work like you expected, [contact us](https://extrachill.com/contact/) or post in the [community forum](https://community.extrachill.com).
