Download format consistency #153

Description

@grijohn

Formatting of download files in version .5 are fairly consistent with the exception of the pivot download table from the Download data domain. The screen captures below show the formatting for each of the major downloads with comments:

Browse domain:
/home/john/FAO/BETA TEST/screenshots/browse.png

Compare domain:
compare

Compare and Browse are consistent.

Bulk download in Download Data:
/home/john/FAO/BETA TEST/screenshots/bulk.png

This is consistent with Browse and Compare but does not include the initial Domain Code and Domain columns.

Download Table (in Download Data):
/home/john/FAO/BETA TEST/screenshots/download_table.png
This is also consistent with the Compare and Browse formats.

Pivot Table:

Download Pivot Table has major issues that make it very difficult to use for data analysis in a spreadsheet or database.

  • There are no column headings for the first three columns.
  • Several columns include two elements of data ( a name and a code number)--each data element should have its own column.
  • The date column headings also contain the date codes.
  • Repeating the "Unit" data in each of the date records is unnecessary-- at least in this version of the pivot table.

I have not evaluated the various formatting options in the pivot table-- I will wait to do this until the basic issues described above are resolved.
